Head South for Your Winter Ski Trip

Everyone knows the phrase “birds fly south for the winter”, but if you are a skier, heading south might not be the first thing on your mind when booking skiing vacations. The western side of the Smokies, however, feature some of the best slopes in the southeast, and skiing in Gatlinburg is a great way to enjoy a winter trip. Why not plan some time away to hit the slopes and then soak in your own private hot tub at one of our cozy cabins in Gatlinburg?

Skiing and Snowboarding for Experts and Beginners

Your home for all things snow is Ober Gatlinburg, which has 10 skiing trails, a terrain park, and three chairlifts. The only ski area in Tennessee and one of the few in the southeast, every slope is equipped with snow-making cannons for much more reliable snow lay. The longest run is 4,400 feet while two slopes drop for 556 feet, so there are plenty of challenges as well as some easier slopes.

If you have always wanted to learn how to ski, but never learned, Ober has its own school for both skiing and snowboarding. You can participate in a group session or reserve your own private lesson, both of which involve all the basic techniques and some low-impact practice.

Enjoy Wintry Activities at a Slower Pace

If you are considering skiing vacations but bringing people who do not want to ski, fear not, there is plenty of fun for everyone. In addition to plenty of skiing and snowboarding slopes, there are a wide variety of other activities as well. Ober Gatlinburg is famous for its snow tubing, with a special course set up for those who prefer to enjoy the snow at a slighter slower pace.

Other options for wintry fun include skating on the ice rink, ice bumper cars, climbing wall, mini-golf, and the alpine slide. The new Wildlife Encounter showcases a variety of animals for the Appalachian Mountains.

There are plenty of activities that do not even involve going outside, like the carousel or arcade, or even a ride on the aerial tramway or chairlift. A trip on either is a great way to see the Smoky Mountains at a relaxed pace without having to pull on your hiking boots. Plus, with a restaurant, lounge, and bar, there are options for refreshment as well.
